Spring Break With Asuri

Nicole and I were home alone for Spring break. We had no idea what we were going to do for a whole week with no school. We put our minds together and decided we would invite Asuri over for a sleep over! I'd been wanting to sleep outside and this was the perfect opportunity to act like a kid...for a good reason. So Nicole and I went out and bought marshmallows, chocolate, graham crackers, watermelon, and other fun "camping" foods. We were ready for a fun weekend!

We set the tent up in the breezeway beside our house. We set up cement blocks then threw in some kindling and logs to create that authentic camping atmosphere :)

Asuri had never tried a s'more before. And even I, your faithful (actually unfaithful) American blogger had never tasted one. It's positively shameful!

Asuri said she liked it...I, however, am not a fan of marshmallows. Or whipped cream. Or anything that is like eating foamy air. So...s'mores and I shall remain arch enemies for life. They were fun to make though!

We sat around the fire for a while just chatting then went into our tent for the night. Asuri was curious about my phone so I was giving her the "tour". I also introduced her to Real Racing 3 - Hahha!

Nicole, of course, went straight to sleep.

After a little while of messing around on my phone, Asuri was good and tired. She layed down and was snoring in 30 seconds flat...
...When all of a sudden it started raining. UGH! Nicole and I jumped up, and ran to get a tarp to cover the tent. Sigh. It was an eventful night...on a cold cement ground.

Asuri was up not bright, but definitely early. Too early for the sun to even be out. *YAWN*
When I woke up, I looked over and Nicole was gone. Come to find out, she'd gone inside sometime in the early morning to her nice, comfy bed. What?!!
So out Asuri and I came from our tents, and into the house to make breakfast.

Asuri then informed us that she is not much of a breakfast girl. Welllllllllll? ?.......what to do now??
I am not much of an entertainer at 6:30 in the morning!!
Nicole and I are breakfast girls so Nicole made us a green smoothie. Doesn't that look so yummy?!
I don't remember exactly what we did, but eventually Nicole and her went into the kitchen to make chocolate chip cookies.

Oh yes...we had to call the gas guys to come and fill up our tank. Here Nicole is trying to light the water heater...with no luck. Oh, and Asuri in the back capturing it all.

Our future church piano player

I did her hair...

...Nicole helped her make a scarf..

Happy girl :)

We told her mom to come pick her up the next day at around 2. She did not come until after 9pm.
We had a great time, but I'm pretty sure at some point Nicole and I looked into each other's eyes and muttered "never again".
Ok well...not really. It was muttered, but not seriously. :D

Asuri went home, but Nicole and I continued with our spring break. I convinced her to sleep outside with me in the tent just one more time. I think I could do it every night! Camping really is nice...especially when you have a kitchen and nice bathroom right next door! ;)

Letter Writing With the Boys

Nicole was teaching the boys how to write a letter. For some reason, on this particular morning, the boys thought that letter-writing was the funniest thing on earth! I don't know what was going on.
Their assignment was to write their own letter. It could be to anyone and be about anything. This was their first try at this so bare with us, lol!
I wish everyone spoke Spanish, I would just take a picture of each letter and post it! Their spelling errors and way of writing is cute, but sometimes doesn't translate well.

Hello Andres:

How are you? I am well. I went to the store and bought things: a car, a ball, and oil. What did you do today, Andres?

                          Sincerely,
                                    Fabian

Hello friend:

How are you? I trust you are healthy and at peace with all your family. Saturday you can play at 6:00 pm.
                       Sincerely,
                                 Alejandro

Hi Grandpa:

How are you? I hope this finds you doing well. Today I went to the zoo. It was fun because I got to see a lot of animals and a playful monkey. After that, we went to the circus and saw the acrobats.

                       Your faithful grandson
                                                     Bryan

I find this one to be particularly cute because Bryan even included his signature!

Dear teacher,

Teacher, I hope you and your family are doing well. My birthday is the 17th of August and I want you to come with all of your family. I hope everything goes well with you. See you soon.

                          Sincerely, your student,
                                                        Arturo

Our New Baby Girl

Monday evening Nibya Elisa Garcia was born. She came a month and a half early and weighs 2 lbs, 9 oz. We are asking all of you to please keep her in your prayers. She is on a respirator. The doctors are saying she has infection all throughout her body and her intestines are not fully developed. We need a miracle!
For those who have been down here and know the people, this is Elder Wakefield's assistant pastor's baby. If you've read this blog for any amount of time, you've seen our Tio Mario, Tia Hayde, and our evangelista Abner. Please keep this family in your prayers and our new baby girl, Elisa. As you can imagine, this is extremely hard for all of us.

Fabian: Sent to Heal the Sick

Yesterday, the third graders had an assignment in Spanish where they were supposed to write as if they were one of Jesus' chosen men sent out to heal the sick. They were to write it from their own point of view, using their own words. Fabian is quite the little writer and has a pretty decent church vocabulary. I thought his story was cute, so I thought I'd share!

On the trip, we were in the regions where Jesus had sent us to heal the sick and liberate people so they could be free all of their lives. Also Jesus told us, "Don't take anything. Don't even bring a lot of clothes." He also told us, "Shake the dust from your feet as a sign of rejection." We went around announcing the kingdom of God, teaching with power and authority. One day we were passing through a city and I saw a crippled man. I prayed for him and he was able to walk again.

The Neumann's Visit Puebla

Back in March the Neumanns from Sparks, NV came and visited us. We had the best time!! They were very laid-back and adventurous, which made for a great time.

Dinner at our house...

We went to Cholula, which is the city with the Catholic church on top of a pyramid.
We went in the tunnel inside, it was very interesting!
Touring the museum of Cholula..

We climbed to the top of the hill/pyramid to the church. This is the view of the city of Puebla.

We went to a Brazilian steakhouse....twice.

It was AMAZING and FABULOUS!! Which is why this is what I have the MOST pictures of-lol!

If you've never been to a Brazilian steakhouse, this is how it works--
The waiters are running around with meat on sword/skewers. They go to each table and cut off a chunk of meat for each person that wants some. It is all you can eat.

They have tons of different meat...tons!! Here the waiter is cutting us a slice of cow tongue.

Sis. Neumann and I

Nicole and her fried banana with caramal sauce and lechera

The famous pinneapple....this thing was so delicious. I'm pretty sure Bro. Neumann ate a whole one by himself--ha! It is super tender and is rolled in cinnamon sugar. They cut it off into your plate in perfectly thin slices. It is great!

Bro. and Sis. Nuemann

One of the nights we went to our favorite burger stand--yummm!

Bro. Nuemann preaching at our church!

These are the only two pictures I have of the services :(

We had a great time with the Neumanns!! We hope to see them here again SOON!
